Entry from: Don Det, Lao Peoples Dem Rep Entry Title: "Rustic and Romantic" Entry: "We woke up, checked our bellies, and didn't feel any strange rumblings, so we were good to go. We checked out of our hotel and bought tickets on the daily boat to Don Det leaving at 8:30. We opted for the boat as we thought it may be a more scenic way to travel than by bus, even though it was more expensive. An hour and a half later, we pulled up underneath a massive tree and clambered off the boat and onto Don Det. As I mentioned before, Don Det is a backpacker's haven. The reason backpackers flock here is because it's beautiful and dirt cheap. Virtually every household on the island has opened up their own guesthouse. In most cases they've thrown up rather ramshackle bamboo bungalows and outfitted them with the most basic of bedframes and the cheapest of mattresses (which are basically the mats found on chaise lounges at the pool). In most cases, they've also added a mosquito net - a bit of a necessity, given the proximity to the water and the lack of a fan. Some bungalows are slightly better, boasting wood construction and two windows. None of them have electricity, nor bathrooms, so it's a very rustic affair.
